Position Overview/What we are looking for

We are looking for a Data Center Engineer with at least 3 - 5 years of experience. As a Data Center Engineer you will be well rounded in the practice of implementing, maintaining, and leading improvement projects on a wide range of workloads. You enrich teams with their your ability to work on the their current needs, planning upgrades, implementing configuration changes, extending/replacing engineering systems and assisting in architecture. You will work with the Engineering Infrastructure Managers planning projects, efficiency improvements, constraint management and pursuing business objectives.

As a Data Center Engineer, you will work with corporate partners and Engineering Lab Technicians, to manage the local infrastructure and services, resolve issues, and support users. You will help implement, maintain, upgrade, extend, monitor, and manage local engineering services including (but not limited to) infrastructure, file, application, and backup servers. You will support and help keep critical local engineering systems available to an agreed schedule, deploy and maintain lab equipment and implement/administer lab management facilities including remote access and power control and while coordinating the use of shared resources including lab space and power.

Basic Qualifications/Essential Skills and Experience

  • A broad, up to date, knowledge of general IT technologies.

  • Basic Linux system administration including NIS, DNS, DHCP, PXE, Apache, CUPS, SSH and Exim

  • Basic experience with several Linux distros (Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS, RedHat, etc) and Windows

  • Knowledge of Ethernet local area networking including VLANs

  • Knowledge of IP routing

  • Experience of using Network filers (NetApp, EqualLogic; iSCSI and NFS)

  • Desire to improve existing, and designing new, tools to improve our ever-growing engineering environment.

  • Awareness of datacenter operations and security standards  

  • Fundamental understanding of firewalls (Fortinet Preferable)

  • Experience with DCIM & monitoring tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of Cisco UCS and its capabilities

  • Understanding of power, cooling & remote management found in datacenters

  • Experience with Cisco and other switches

  • Experience of using backup tools such as Commvault

  • Experience of running an engineering/test lab

  • Knowledge of server virtualization

  • Windows System Administration including PowerShell and Active Directory

  • Network analysis tools (Wire Shark, TCT dump, N-Map, etc)

  • Experience with upgrading server hardware (memory, NICs, HDs etc.)

  • Python/PHP/SQL development/administration

  • Carry a cell phone, respond to after hour's datacenter problems. Occasional system maintenance will require after hours or weekend work

  • Clarity of thought when under pressure

  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, ever evolving, and challenging environment

  • Work effectively with minimal direction or supervision for day-to-day tasks and communicate outcomes

  • The ability to remain calm and work effectively during service impacting incidents

  • Ability to handle multiple projects at any given time

  • Ability to communicate effectively with contractors who may perform maintenance or upgrade work on these systems
