What we're looking for:

As IP Counsel, you will have an intellectual property law background, with significant experience in a variety patent related matters. You will be encouraged to proactively engage with customers and successfully communicate legal mentorship to accomplish strategic IP initiatives in furtherance of our company goals.

Position Summary

Primary responsibilities for this position include patent portfolio management, patent prosecution management, and invention harvesting. This position also requires a willingness to perform secondary responsibilities in relation to other IP activities, such as IP monetization, merger & acquisition (M&A) projects, patent litigation campaigns, and open source initiatives.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities

  • Assist with portfolio management, including invention harvesting initiatives, IP training activities, and supervision of outside counsel in patent application preparation and prosecution
  • Provide legal support related to IP licensing and monetization campaigns by assisting with in-bound and out-bound transactions, and draft and negotiate intellectual property transactions including patent sales, acquisitions, and licensing; patent pool and standards agreements; and university collaboration agreements
  • Conduct due diligence concerning intellectual property aspects of M&A activities
  • Provide supervision and provide mentorship to outside counsel related to patent litigation campaigns
  • Provide counseling on open source licensing initiatives, and in particular, advice and mentorship related to open source software code compliance, strategies projects, and community engagement approaches
  • Travel as needed to Citrix offices, customers, and licensees worldwide

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in patent prosecution, particularly in virtualization, networking, workspace, analytics, endpoint management, and content collaboration technology spaces.  Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence is a plus
  • Experience conducting freedom-to-operate, patentability, and infringement analyses is also a plus
  • Experience with negotiating sophisticated agreements, including software licensing and IP development and patent monetization agreements is helpful
  • Familiarity with U.S. federal and state laws and international IP laws
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; an ability to work as part of a team and with remote clients; and an ability to work with outside counsel, customers, and partners, as well as, internal departments and customers, including engineers and other legal team members
  • Familiarity and experience with IP systems, such as docket management, invention management, and patent analytics systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • IP licensing experience, preferably in IP monetization is helpful
  • Software or related engineering degree required.  Candidates without a technical background or with only litigation or licensing experience will not be considered
  • Software development or engineering industry experience

Basic Qualifications

  • JD and license to practice.  Must be in good standing with one or more states
  • Registration to practice before the United States Patent Office
  • 2-4 years of patent prosecution experience
