Citrix News

Advice from Citrites

We asked interns and full time Citrites their best advice for joining Citrix and growing from the opportunities available at our innovative company.
Advice from a Citrite
How long have you been at Citrix?
I joined Citrix in November 2020 so, at the time of writing this, I am almost 6 months into my career journey here.

What is your current position and a brief overview of what you do? As you are probably aware, Citrix has well over 50 products that customers can purchase and use in conjunction. In Solution Interoperability, we have identify, design, and automate the most common customer use cases or Solution Tests. On a day-to-day basis, I usually have some automation tasks to improve or extend a feature of the Solution Tests. I also spend a notable portion of the day triaging our test runs to identify bugs in Citrix products.

What has been your favorite part about Citrix? – Every day it feels like I’m learning something new. Whether it be lots of small tricks or something I never even thought about knowing. In my team, we use lots of different platforms so I’m getting to learn more about SCM(Source Control Management), OOP Languages, CI/CD pipelines, Cloud Computing (from Citrix Products to Azure Databases), PowerBI Dashboards, and more. As you can tell, there is a lot of variety in the work and within our team too. Despite joining and working completely remotely since lockdown, I have developed strong relationships and collaborations within my team. I am learning from them just as much as from the work itself.

Do you have any advice for new hires (full time and interns)?
Ask questions. Everyone was at the same place that you are starting from.  Curiosity will never kill the cat here at Citrix. In fact that quality will help you land your favorite project
Advice from a Citrite
How long have you been at Citrix?
It has been 3.5 months since I joined Citrix.

What has been your favorite part about Citrix?
I feel very excited to be at Citrix. Given the ongoing pandemic, safety and security are of paramount importance for everyone. The fact that I am working for a company that provides remote working solutions and helps people do their jobs efficiently while being safe and secure brings me immense pride. The remote working solutions of Citrix are changing the landscape of seamless smart working across the globe with their efficacy, utility and value addition. I feel extremely rewarded being a part of this transformative process which Citrix is bringing about.

What is your current position and a brief overview of what you do?Presently I am working as a Software Engineer Intern in the Citrix Content and Collaboration (ShareFile) team at Bengaluru, India. As an Intern, I have been assigned the task of a critical security vulnerability that currently exists. This task involves quite a lot of brainstorming and interaction with my team members. It’s still in progress as of now. But the fact that in spite of being an intern, I am not being treated any different from the permanent employee makes me very happy. This is a place where my voice is heard and I get to contribute significantly. As we're all working from home at the moment, I haven't met my team mates in person. In spite of that, they make me feel welcome and treat me as an inherent team member. Not to mention the positive acknowledgement and feedback I receive from my teammates they encourage me to strive higher. I feel very privileged to be a part of the Citrix family.

What you enjoy doing outside of work to help personalize your story for the upcoming Citrites? Outside of work, I enjoy playing keyboard and painting. I also read books on a regular basis. And I absolutely love travelling as well! Exploring new places and gaining new experiences and insights is the perfect catalyst for happiness for me.

If you could vacation for free in any city or country for 10 days, where would you go? This is quite a tough question! I think I would go with New York City. This might sound quite odd, but to me, New York City is like the center of the whole world. It’s a perfect culmination of culture, music, fashion, commerce, art, infrastructure, technology, education you name it. The constant feeling of hustle fascinates me a lot. It’s one of the most happening places on earth and the fact that I could live here, for free, for 10 days is like a dream come true for me. Also, I’ve heard that the food over here is quite exquisite and for a foodie like me, this is quite irresistible as well! Visiting New York seems like stepping into a whole new world and the prospect of waking up in a “city that never sleeps” for 10 full days is something that I would love to experience at least once.
Advice from a Citrite
How long have you been at Citrix?
10 months (June 2020)

What has been your favorite part about Citrix?
My favorite part about Citrix is the people. I am able to have great conversations with my colleagues, inside or outside of work, leading to a more productive and happy workplace.

Do you have any advice for new hires (full time and interns)?
Get involved in any way you can whether that be through ERGs, volunteering for additional projects, or networking with other Citrites. There are a lot of really talented individuals at Citrix who are always willing to share their insights and provide guidance.

If you could vacation for free in any city or country for 10 days, where would you go?Switzerland! I would love to explore Zurich and Geneva along with skiing the Swiss Alps.
Advice from a Citrite
How long have you been at Citrix?
Working in Citrix for 19 months

What has been your favorite part about Citrix?
My favourite thing about Citrix is the people and the culture. I am yet to find someone who won’t got the extra mile to help.

Do you have any advice for new hires (full time and interns)?
I was involved in the strategic accounts in EMEA. Got to meet some fantastic customer and work with people from multiple countries and disciplines. It was a fantastic experience and learning curve.

What do you think is the best way to get connected/ involved at Citrix?
Always be willing to put yourself forward to do something. Say yes now and learn later! We are all always learning. Reach out with an email! Everyone is Citrix is very approachable. If you email someone they will get back to you! When we get to go back into the office, ask someone to go for a coffee!

What you enjoy doing outside of work to help personalize your story for the upcoming Citrites?
Favourite hobby is training for an Ironman! I am technology specialist in the Centre of Excellence. As a tech specialist I need to have a deep technical understanding in a targeted technology domain and drive business for their given areas of specialization. Tech Specialists align to supporting sales professionals and pre-sales engineers throughout EMEA, and are responsible for identifying and matching technology opportunities with the customer’s business issues, objectives, and outcomes to drive product sales. I play a lot of team sports and I am trying to learn another language. My future goals are, to continue to learn new technologies and business strategies for our customers.

If you could vacation for free in any city or country for 10 days, where would you go?
My 10 day holiday would be in Mexico! I’m based in Ireland, don’t often get over to that side of the world!

Advice from a Citrite
How long have you been at Citrix?
I have been an intern for 3 months now.

What has been your favorite part about Citrix?
I am an intern in the Interoperability team in the Shared Engineering Department. We focus on building, validating, and documenting realistic customer-centric deployments for the entire Citrix product suite. In simpler terms, we replicate environments for customers that have bought several of our products to ensure those products work together using automation thus minimizing the effort required to test in a realistic way for engineering teams

Do you have any advice for new hires (full time and interns)?
One thing I have noticed is that at Citrix everyone is super supportive of one another and you can reach out to anyone in your network for help so don’t hesitate to ask where to begin. There are learning and training centers for you to learn and explore and various courses on tools and technology and even development practices. We at Citrix follow an agile mindset. I also recommend checking the Citrix backstage for various news and events happening at Citrix. This is also where you can find the most useful apps i.e., Workday, Concierge, Learning center, etc.

What do you think is the best way to get connected/ involved at Citrix?
In my experience even though everything is virtual, there are many events occurring at Citrix every so often some of which are Stand-up comedy, Public speaking sessions, and recently I took part in a virtual escape room event with other employees at Citrix.  Another way would be as a new hire you would get the opportunity to meet various key people at Citrix due to the efforts of the HR team. This can really help widen the network and listening to these leaders talk so passionately about Citrix will inspire you. There are also Clubs and ERGs where people gather with similar interests and these clubs have regular events and virtual meets. This would be perfect to involve yourself in new things and meet new people. There are also hackathons and Tech fairs. If you have a passion for innovation you can connect to similar people through the innovation events at Citrix from Podio. You can check out the teams and the projects they are working on (from Podio) you can then reach out to them.

What you enjoy doing outside of work to help personalize your story for the upcoming Citrites?
I am very fond of pencil sketching and I tend to sketch during my free time or whenever I feel down. I have been trying to color my sketches but that is still a work in progress. I am also passionate about extreme sports; I have already tried river rafting and scuba diving. Sky dying, bungee jumping, and river raftering again in a much crazier river are on my bucket list.

If you could vacation for free in any city or country for 10 days, where would you go?

I would love to visit Iceland. The place just seems out of this world. It is called the land of fire and ice for a reason. From gargantuan volcanoes to infinite snow sheets, Iceland has it all. Being able to see Aurora Borealis is a cherry on top. Moreover, a lot of my favorite movies have been filmed there (like Interstellar). So, I would pick Iceland for the 10-day vacation without any second thoughts.
Advice from a Citrite
How long have you been at Citrix?
10 months

What has been your favorite part about Citrix?
Since I joined, I have been working on variety of sub-projects ranging from security, operating systems to right upto booting up a new hardware. There is something new lined up for me every month. The fact that my manager lets me touch every available corner in my team’s responsibilities is really a blessing because this lets me explore what different opportunities I have within the team before settling into one and heading it.

Do you have any advice for new hires (full time and interns)?
Ask questions. Everyone was at the same place that you are starting from.  Curiosity will never kill the cat here at Citrix. In fact that quality will help you land your favorite project 😉

What do you think is the best way to get connected/ involved at Citrix?
We have a lot of ERGs here at Citrix. From books and movies to toastmaster series, you name it and we have it. Choose one or as many you like and start attending the events. That’s the best way to know other Citrites and meet people with common interests as you. This will help you interact with other Citrites outside your team and can be a way to learn what other teams do here at Citrix. Ask your manager who all does he/she work with outside our team and ask them if they can introduce you to them. Schedule a 10 min call with them and see what they work on, how you can help them or just learn what different responsibilities the other team/s have. This is the best way to build a network and that’s how other Citrites will be introduced to you.

What you enjoy doing outside of work to help personalize your story for the upcoming Citrites?
I love to meet new people. I have been on that spree since moving to Bay Area. Citrix was a good starting point for that. 😊 Other than that, I love to eat so most weekends it is going around some new food joint and trying a different cuisine.

If you could vacation for free in any city or country for 10 days, where would you go?
London. I have been fascinated by this city since childhood and I would hope on the first flight available if I get to go there. 😍
