The Citrix NetScaler is an application delivery controller that provides flexible delivery services for traditional, containerized and micro service applications from your data center or any cloud. It features unmatched security, superior L4-7 load balancing, reliable GSLB, and increased uptime.

Platforms team, which is part of fast-growing Citrix NetScaler product, is responsible for delivering different variants of platforms for Citrix NetScaler. Enabling the growth of virtualized platforms is a key initiative of the platform team. Public clouds are an essential element of this initiative.
An ideal candidate will have experience in delivering the virtual network appliances in public cloud environments:
•      Extensive experience in development, testing and debugging of FreeBSD based appliance.
•      Delivering virtual appliances on ESX/XEN/Hyper-V/KVM
•      Delivering computing/networking products in public clouds (AWS/Azure/Google/OCI)
•      In-depth understanding of common network protocols and their applications.


The Sr Software Engineer will take up platform projects, either individually or as part of a team.

  • Architect design, develop, test and troubleshoot complex systems and platforms.
  • Responsible for delivering the products with one or more platforms including technical ownership, lifecycle implications, and tactical concerns.
  • Responsible for system software development, testing and debugging in following areas:
    • Public clouds including but not limited to AWS, Azure, GCP and OCI
    • FreeBSD appliance in bare metal or virtual environment (ESXi, KVM, XEN and HyperV)
    • Private clouds including but not limited to OpenStack, NSX etc.
  • Build test automation frameworks, develop test plans and integrate the tests to CI/CD pipelines.
  • Responsible for mentoring junior members in the team.
  • Work cross-functionally to select and integrate components that are not created internally.
  • Create documents and artifacts to put forward ideas, algorithms, workflows, and solutions.
  • Determine and drive technical directions for implementation of projects
  • Demonstrate and develop software development best practices and drive them through the organization.
  • Support customer POCs, Escalations and engagements.
  • Engage with other leaders across Citrix to align roadmaps and identify opportunities
  • Determine and drive technical directions for implementation of projects

Qualifications and Requirements

  • 6 to 8 years of related work experience in building Platform software with BE/ME Degree in computer science or related discipline.
  • 2+ years of directly related work experience in building software products on public clouds (AWS, AZURE, GCP, OCI).
  • Deep understanding of Operating System principles and Internals. 
    • FreeBSD kernel experience is particularly valuable.
  • Good understanding of technology trends in the virtualization (ESXi, KVM, HyperV, XS) and clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI).
  • Broad understanding of technology trends in networking industry (TCP/IP and other L3-L7 networking protocols).
  • Experience in system software product development and life-cycle maintenance.
  • Expert in debugging complex system issues.
  • Knowledge of DevOps tools such as Ansible, Jenkins is desirable
  • Understanding of Agile and TDD (Test Driven development) methodologies is desirable
  • Knowledge on Containers, Dockers, Kubernetes is desirable
  • Experience in test automation, execution and defining the test cases is desirable.
  • Expert in C/C++ and Python programming languages.
  • Expert in computer science fundamentals like Architecture, Algorithms, Data structures, and problem-solving.
  • Experience with open source licenses and implications
  • Must demonstrate ability to technically own a product or a set of features
  • Must demonstrate an ability to technically own and negotiate cross-functional deliverables across the matrix organization.
  • Must demonstrate architectural strength to influence and drive the product roadmap
  • Must demonstrate ability and willingness to lead other engineers cross functionally to drive features and roadmap.
  • Must demonstrate to work in a more collaborative way with local and remote teams.
